19 more Missourians die from COVID-19 as more than 6,000 cases confirmed in the state
Nineteen more people in Missouri have died from the coronavirus, increasing the toll to 208, according to the latest numbers provided by the state.
In addition, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has reported that 196 new COVID-19 cases have been identified in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number in the state to 6,137 on Wednesday.
St. Louis County has led the state with the most residents who have tested positive for COVID-19. As of Wednesday, at least 2,436 cases have been identified in the county and 97 people have died there.
Other areas that have reported high numbers: the city of St. Louis with 893 cases and 21 deaths; St. Charles County with 467 cases and 25 deaths; Kansas City with 448 cases and 13 deaths; and Jackson County with 288 cases and eight deaths.
The majority of Missourians who have died from complications with COVID-19 are older adults, with those 80 years old or older accounting for 82 deaths. The state has provided a breakdown by age, which includes 54 deaths of people in their 70s; 43 in their 60s; 21 in their 50s, five in their 40s and three in their 30s.
The state department of health said 57,960 have been tested in Missouri.
Nationwide, more than 835,000 people have tested positive for COVID-19 and more than 45,000 people have died, according to data provided by Johns Hopkins University.
