One more COVID-19 death reported in Missouri as state sees 140 new confirmed cases
The number of people in Missouri who have tested positive for the coronavirus surged past 5,800 cases Monday as the state reported another death, according to the latest statistics from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
A total of 177 people have died from complications related to the coronavirus in Missouri, an increase of one death from 24 hours earlier, according to the data.
Missouri also saw the number of people who have tested positive for the virus rise by 140 new cases. As of Monday, 5,807 people have tested positive for the virus, up from 5,667 reported on Sunday.
Of the confirmed COVID-19 cases, 526 patients were hospitalized, a decreased of 27 patients in the past 24 hours, according to statistics from the Missouri Hospital Association. Another 347 patients were under investigation for COVID-19, a decrease of 78 patients since Sunday.
Hospitals reported the availability of thousands of medical surgical beds and several hundred intensive care unit beds, according to the Missouri Hospital Association. However, dozens of hospitals continue to report shortages of personal protection equipment and testing materials, including N95 masks, surgical masks, face shields and exam gloves, according to the hospital association.
Some hospitals were saying they had less than a two-day supply despite contingency strategies.
The areas hit the hardest by the coronavirus are St. Louis County, which had 2,289 cases and 82 deaths; St. Louis with 859 cases and 21 deaths; St. Charles County with 447 cases and 13 deaths; Kansas City with 420 cases and 13 deaths, and Jackson County with 271 cases and eight deaths.
A total of 55,873 people have been tested in Missouri, according to the latest numbers available. About 9.6% of tests are coming back positive.
That’s nearly three times as many tests that Kansas has conducted. Kansas on Monday reported that it had 1,986 cases of people testing positive for the coronavirus and 100 COVID-19-related deaths. Kansas’ positive test rate is about 11%.
Nationally, more than 776,510 positive cases of the coronavirus with at least 41,313 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
