Fourth resident of Harrisonville nursing home dies from coronavirus
An 89-year-old man who was in hospice care is the fourth resident of Meadow View Health & Rehabilitation to die from the novel coronavirus, the facility reported.
The Harrisonville nursing home and the Cass County Health Department say at least 17 residents there have tested positive for COVID-19, including the four who have died from the disease as of Friday.
Figures released by Meadow View earlier this week indicated the number of COVID-19-positive residents was higher but those numbers have since changed. In an email to The Star, Craig Workman, a spokesman for the facility, stated there were “some inconsistencies in our data that have now been corrected and made consistent with what Cass County Health has on file.”
Eleven of the residents remain in isolation at Meadow View while two are recovering at a hospital. Three other residents — all women in their 80s — died. The first death was reported April 10.
In addition, the nursing home stated that four of its staff members have tested positive as of Friday. The employees are recovering at their homes.
The number of cases has continued to grow since the first few were announced April 9.
The Cass County Health Department said it has been working closely with Meadow View to investigate positive cases and case contacts and to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the facility.
At least 53 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Cass County, where Meadow View is located, according to statistics from the local health department.
Statewide, at least 5,283 COVID-19 cases have been reported and 165 people have died, according to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.
