Coronavirus death toll climbs to 50 in Kansas as more cases are reported Friday
Fifty people in Kansas have died from the new coronavirus, the state’s health department said Friday.
Residents at a nursing facility in Kansas City, Kansas, attribute for several of those deaths. On Friday, three more deaths linked to Riverbend Post Acute Rehabilitation were announced, bringing the total there to 10.
Riverbend has become Kansas’ biggest outbreak for COVID-19.
Friday’s numbers show that 92 people connected to the facility — 84 residents and eight staff members — have tested positive for the coronavirus. Four residents are still hospitalized.
Across Kansas, 1,166 cases have been identified, an increase of 60 over the previous day, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
On March 10, there were a total of nine cases in the state.
To date, 274 people have been hospitalized.
Wyandotte County has the most cases in the state with 296. Johnson County has the second most with 262.
On Friday, Missouri reported 3,799 cases and 96 deaths.
More than 1.6 million cases have been recorded globally, according to Johns Hopkins University.
