Second coronavirus death reported in Kansas City: a man in his 90s

A second Kansas City resident has died from COVID-19, the local health department has reported.

A man in his 90s died from the disease, the Kansas City Health Department said in a Twitter post on Friday.

No further details were released about the man.

The city reported its first COVID-19-related death on Thursday after a woman in her 70s died after spending several days in the hospital.

At least 154 COVID-19 cases have been identified and verified in Kansas City as of Friday, according to the health department’s website.

In Missouri, 2,113 people have tested positive for the coronavirus and at least 19 people have died. The number of deaths reported by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services on Friday afternoon does not appear to include the two deaths that were announced in Kansas City. At least 24,727 have been tested for the coronavirus by state and private laboratories.

Also on Friday, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson announced a statewide stay-at-home order in an effort to slow the spread of the virus. The order will be in effect April 6 through April 24.
