Two workers at Children’s Mercy construction site test positive for the coronavirus

Two people who worked at a construction site at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City have tested positive for the new coronavirus.

McCownGordon spokeswoman Sheri Johnson said a subcontractor tested positive April 1 and is now quarantined. That person was last at the hospital job site March 26 and worked with one other person who is also quarantining.

The 4,525 square foot space where the person worked was cleaned and sanitized, Johnson said. The area was closed during the cleaning which took about half a day.

The other worker tested positive more than two weeks after he was last on the project site.

“Our understanding from McGownGordon is that one of the workers had not been on the construction site since March 17,” Children’s Mercy Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Augustine said. “It is our understanding the other contractor worked only on the construction site.”

Johnson said the company has followed CDC guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19.

“It’s important to note, there is no common access between the hospital and the construction site,” she added.
