Amid coronavirus pandemic, large Kansas City area hotels, B&Bs are shuttering doors

The Sheraton Hotel at Crown Center will temporarily close, the hotel posted on Facebook Friday night.

The post did not provide details on the reason for the closing but said the hotel would reopen “as soon as possible.”

The move follows other Kansas City area hotels that have temporarily shuttered their doors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Allison Sitch, vice president of public relations for Marriott, the hotel’s owners, said she couldn’t comment on the situation at specific hotels but that the chain has seen drops in demand worldwide.

“We are working quickly to mitigate the impact to our business while also focusing on assisting our associates, our guests and our owners,” Stitch said in an email to The Star. “While the ultimate impact is difficult to predict at this time given the fluidity of the situation, we remain confident in our long-term prospects.“

Last week, the Crossroads Hotel stopped all guestroom and dining services until further notice.

“As this issue has been escalated to pandemic-level, it is now preventing us from our top priority of protecting the health and well-being of our guests, our staff and our local community,” the hotel’s management group Aparium said in a statement.

The city’s awaited convention hotel, Loews, announced last week that its opening would be delayed until further notice to preserve the health of staff and guests.

The Adam’s Mark Hotel and Conference Center, CoCo Key Water resort and several area bed and breakfasts have also temporarily closed their doors.
