Lee’s Summit neighborhood keeps its distance, gets social with ‘dinner on the driveway’

Some Lee’s Summit residents got to go out to eat this week and still kept to the shelter-in-place order.

The Monticello neighborhood — near Missouri 291 and Lakewood Boulevard — missed seeing neighbors. So neighbors put the word out on Facebook: “Dinner on the driveway.”

Wanting to support a local restaurant, they ordered 43 meals from nearby Summit Grill. Summit then delivered the orders to each house, and residents set up tables and chairs in their individual driveways so they could keep a safe distance.

Children put up colorful artwork. Adults raised toasts.

The neighborhood plans to hold the event twice a week as long as the shelter-in-place order is in effect, and they hope other neighborhoods pick up on the idea.
