Platte County has first coronavirus patient, more cases reported in Kansas
Platte County has reported its first COVID-19 patient, the county health department said Monday.
County health officials said people who have come into contact with the patient will be notified and asked to self-isolate for 14 days.
Earlier in the day, Missouri officials reported a total of 183 cases of the novel coronavirus across the state. As the number of cases grew, Gov. Mike Parson said he will not issue a “shelter-in-place” order.
In Kansas, the Department of Health and Environment said Monday the state had found more than 80 cases of COVID-19.
The numbers reflect patients who have been tested and found to have the virus. The number of people carrying it is likely much larger, public health officials have said.
Gov. Laura Kelly said she will issue an executive order limiting gatherings to 10 people. That will replace a previous order capping gatherings at 50.
Two people in Kansas and three in Missouri have died from the illness.
At 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, residents in Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte counties in Kansas, and Clay, Cass, Platte and Jackson counties in Missouri will be under stay-at-home orders to limit the spread of the virus.
