Kansas to close all DMV locations Monday in response to COVID-19
All 116 driver’s license office locations in Kansas will enter a 14-day closure beginning Monday.
All locations are scheduled to reopen April 6.
Some online services will still be available to customers in need of things such as license renewals, said Zach Fletcher, director of communications for the Kansas Department of Revenue.
Fletcher referred Kansas residents to ikan.ks.gov for the following services:
- Renewing vehicle registrations
- Renewing driver’s license (only for Kansans ages 21-50 who did not use the online renewal at their most recent renewal period, are not obtaining a real ID for the first time or are obtaining a “Not for federal use” license or ID card)
- Ordering vital records copies (birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.)
- Purchasing state park passes
For Kansans younger than 21 who are aiming to obtain their first driver’s license, Fletcher said more clarity is coming soon.
On Wednesday, the Kansas Department of Revenue announced that all walk-in services were canceled at its largest offices — in Wichita, Kansas City and Topeka, among others. This total closure takes it a step further.
“It’s one of those ever-evolving situations, and we are trying to make sure we have all of our ‘i’s dotted and ‘t’s crossed,” Fletcher said.
Throughout the two-week closure, the department will continue to monitor the situation and determine the best time and manner to reopen the offices, Fletcher said.
