Hallmark Cards, Inc. temporarily closed its headquarters at Crown Center after an employee was potentially exposed to the new coronavirus, the company announced Monday.

The exposure occurred in a social setting outside of work, Hallmark said in a news release, and the employee is in self-quarantine.

Cleaning crews will sanitize work spaces and public areas the employee may have come in contact with.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we decided to temporarily close our headquarters facility for 48 hours and have our employees who can work from home to do so,” Sabrina Wiewel, Hallmark’s chief administrative officer, said in a statement. “Those who cannot perform job functions at home will be paid for this time.”

On Monday, Mayor Quinton Lucas suspended all gatherings of more than 10 people in Kansas City, limited restaurants to drive-thru, pickup and delivery service only and announced additional school closures.
