NIC Inc. on Monday reported higher first-quarter revenue and profits, boosted by software services sales to federal, state and local government agencies.
The Olathe-based company said revenue in the first three months of 2016 climbed to $78.4 million from $70.4 million in the same period a year earlier.
Net income reached $12.9 million in the quarter, up from $8.9 million in the first quarter of 2015.
“The year is off to an exceptional start,” Harry Herington, NIC’s chief executive, said in a statement.

NIC said software and services revenue climbed 17 percent in the first quarter. NIC, among other things, develops official government websites and secure payment-processing services.
