Black & Veatch has been honored by the nonprofit Edison Universe for its use of multiple energy sources to generate electricity at its Overland Park headquarters.
The engineering, construction and consulting company received a Gold Edison award Thursday in recognition of its microgrid system, which generates electricity through a combination of natural gas, solar energy, geothermal and battery storage. The award highlights excellence and creativity in new products and services.
Black & Veatch said the microgrid system includes two natural-gas-fired microturbines that deliver on-site electrical power generation for its headquarters.
