Dish CEO drops president role
Dish Network Corp. CEO Charlie Ergen is relinquishing his role as president of the satellite TV provider, relieving him of some duties to focus on a plan to enter the wireless industry.
Ergen will remain chairman and CEO, and company veteran Erik Carlson will become president and chief operating officer of the Englewood, Colo.-based company.
The more focused role will give Ergen less day-to-day responsibility as he works on what’s next for Dish, which has amassed a $50 billion supply of airwaves he has yet to put to use. U.S. regulators ruled in August he couldn’t buy some on the cheap, nudging his goal of building a nationwide wireless carrier further out of reach.
