Sprint Corp. has named Douglas Michelman to be its senior vice president of corporate communications and corporate social responsibility.

Michelman starts Dec. 1. He replaces Bill White, who is retiring after 32 years with the Overland Park-based wireless company.

Michelman had been chief communications officer at Visa for 10 years, overseeing global media relations, public affairs, industry analyst relations, and financial and communications strategies. He also had been at FleishmanHillard.

“I’m excited about Doug joining my leadership team and believe his background is a tremendous fit for Sprint’s journey to reshape the wireless industry,” Sprint chief executive Marcelo Claure said in an announcement.

Sprint said Michelman would relocate to the Kansas City area.
