Apple isn’t saying how many of its smartwatches it has sold so far. But early estimates indicate it’s already the big player in the market.
Apple didn’t break out the sales in its recent earnings report. But analyst estimates range anywhere from 1.5 million to 5 million watches from the April launch to the end of June. Strategy Analytics estimates that total smartwatch sales jumped to 5.3 million in the second quarter, way up from 1 million sold in the second quarter of 2014. And the firm thinks Apple had 4 million of those sales — 75 percent.
And even the lowest estimate of 1.5 million Apple Watch sales would be more than the 1.3 million that all the other players, such as Samsung, are estimated to have sold in the second quarter.
It’s still anyone’s guess as to how big the smartwatch trend gets — it seems too early too tell — but it does appear to be a sector in which Apple is taking over.
