Sprint employees doing nothing? It’s a challenge.

Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure has challenged employees across the company to stand absolutely still and do nothing.

Yes, he’s talking about the Mannequin Challenge. If you haven’t heard, or seen, the challenge is to post a video of lots of people in freeze frame. The New York Times explains here.

Or you can check out this scene from “Over the Hedge” when Hammy chugs an energy drink.

Claure dropped the challenge on employees in his weekly newsletter after taking part in a Mannequin Challenge in Minneapolis. Sprint is adding 200 people in the Twin Cities operations, and Claure was there to congratulate them on their successes so far.

“I was blown away by the energy when I came into the room today to spend time with Michael McMahon, our Region President for Great Plains, and his ONE Sprint team in the Minneapolis area,” Claure wrote to employees.

Then this: “Have you seen some of these Mannequin Challenge videos that started popping up recently? I’ve watched a few and they are amazing.”

So the CEO and Minneapolis crew did their own video. No spoiler alerts needed. No one moved. The challenge is to make it look like everyone’s active while the video allows the viewer to walk around the room in a freeze-frame shot.

Claure told other Sprint employees that the Minneapolis team “came up with a bunch of cool things to put in the video,” and then he issued the challenge.

“I’d love to see what some of our other ONE Sprint teams and other groups within the company can come up with to produce their own Mannequin Challenge videos! It’s a great way to show how we work together as a team and how Sprint is an amazing place to work. And, it’s a lot of fun!”

Probably more fun than when Claure and his management team took the Ice Bucket Challenge shortly after he became CEO in 2014.
