Pokemon Go gives out Halloween treats: more candy and more ‘spooky’ creatures

It’s Halloween. You’ve got Pokemon Go. Get out there.
It’s Halloween. You’ve got Pokemon Go. Get out there. Pokemon

This is a match made in Pokemon heaven.

Pokemon Go, which gets players out and about and walking the streets, and Halloween, which gets people out and about and walking the streets, are an item now.

From Wednesday through Nov. 1, Pokemon Go will run its first in-game event, with a Halloween theme.

The game’s developer, Niantic, calls this the “spookiest” Pokemon.

“Every Pokemon you catch will award six Candies — twice the normal amount,” says the explanation of the game on Pokemon.com.

“The Professor will give you two candies instead of one for every Pokemon you transfer to him. And your Buddy Pokemon will award Candy four times faster than they usually do. Plus, you’ll get twice the Candy you’d normally get when you hatch Eggs.”

Players will encounter more of the “spookiest” Pokemon, including ghosts like Gastly, Gengar, and Haunter, “and also Drowzee and Zubat for some reason,” notes The Verge.

With Pokemon Go’s shrinking player base, “limited time events like this week’s Halloween-themed excursion could be a good way to lure people back to the experience,” says the Verge. “There’s no word on what other events Niantic might be planning for the future.”

Pokemon Go is ranked No. 9 on the App Store’s top-grossing chart on iOS, right below Candy Crush Saga, according to Forbes.

“Hard to believe that it was only a few short months ago that the world seemed to lose its collective mind over finding virtual creatures out in the real world, walking into traffic with heads down into phones and stampeding through streets for a shot at a Vaporeon,” writes Forbes of the game’s wild success.

“Matching candies may not be quite as exciting, but it would appear to be more reliable.”
