Consumer Reports compares digital tax products

a side-by-side comparison

it posted online.

The report notes that both companies had made the job simpler this year.

Its run-down listed their common features of both companies’ deluxe versions. Each imports W-2s and other documents, offer a running ticker on your refund or tax owed, accuracy guarantees for their calculations, audit support and searchable answers to common questions.

Kansas City-based H Block’s tax software is cheaper, easy to use and “a good choice” for novice do-it-yourself taxpayers, Consumer Reports said.

“It’s a better value than the TurboTax version, especially due to its free advice offer,” the report said.

TurboTax, sold by Intuit Inc., got a nod from Consumer Reports for its online verison. It’s better than TurboTax’s software and better than H Block’s online service, according to the comparison.
