Beware of student loan scams
The U.S. Department of Education has issued a scam alert on some companies that promise to help students saddled with huge debt to lower monthly loan payments.
"These companies are doing something you can do yourself, but they’ll charge you a fee," federal education officials said on the department's
website.
The U.S. Department of Education is providing free assistance on how to lower monthly loan payments, loan forgiveness, and advice for getting out of default.
