Ready for a summer vacation? Let Mother Nature, and an app, help you plan a safe trip
Travel as we know it has ceased to exist in the traditional sense this summer, so many families have opted to pack up their masks and head outdoors to enjoy safe adventures together. Many schools have announced delayed start dates, so staycations continue to see a big resurgence, even later into the summer. The bonus is that enjoying Mother Nature is a very affordable way to spend quality time together. Whether you’re staying close to home or hitting the road, here are some tips to have a great time with the family.
Trail apps
Nature enthusiasts consider a good trail for walking, hiking, biking or birdwatching essential for adventures. And thanks to modern technology, great spots to explore are just a mobile app away. Apps like All Trails and many others help you find the best spots for your recreational activity of choice, many with options for length and difficulty so you can plan your day. You may be surprised by how many trails are tucked in the area near your own home. Or if you’re headed to a new area, check out the app ahead of your trip so you can find the best stops for you.
Picnics
Good old Google Maps can help you find nearby parks for planning a picnic on the road or near your home. Sometimes it’s good to get out of your comfort zone and try exploring a new area. Although eating areas, like picnic tables, are still blocked off at some parks for safety reasons, pack up a blanket to enjoy the sunshine safely from the grass.
Fishing
There’s an app for everything these days, and just like the trail apps, fishing apps like Fishing Spots can help you find approved locations to get out your poles and lure up. Just be sure to check licensing requirements wherever you’re going.
This has been an unbelievably challenging time for so many families, so staycations or outdoor travels are a few ways to take back the late summer in a safe way.
