Money Smart Month kicks off Saturday

More than 40 Kansas City area organizations are scheduling free events, seminars and classes beginning Saturday that are all focused on financial literacy.

The programs are part of April’s designation as Money Smart Month in Kansas City.The eighth annual event is aimed at helping consumers better manage their finances.

Programs will cover topics such as budgeting, savings strategies, credit and debit card usage, tips on how to maximize insurance and health benefits and money management tips for small businesses. In addition, Spanish-language classes will be offered.

The opening event for Money Smart Month is set for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Jack Reardon Convention Center in Kansas City, Kan. John Hope Bryant, founder of Operation Hope and author of “How the Poor Can Save Capitalism,” will be the keynote speaker.
