A basement sports bar in KC’s River Market is closing after 4 years
A basement-level bar in the River Market known for its drink deals and as a place to watch KC sports is closing this month, according to a post on Instagram.
Block 15 Tavern & Exchange announced Wednesday on social media that its last day of service would be July 19 — the day of the FIFA World Cup final.
“Every chapter has its final page,” the post said. “Thank you to everyone who walked through these doors and helped make this place what it became.”
The sports bar opened in the River Market in 2022 from Sam Hagan, who also operated the international inspired Tribe restaurant. That restaurant closed in 2023, and MuNi is now open in its place.
It’s not all bad news for the space at 311 Delaware St. According to the Instagram post, the owners are closing Block 15 so they can renovate the space and introduce a new concept to Kansas Citians.
It isn’t immediately clear what’s in store for the basement-level spot. The Kansas City Star reached out to an email belonging to Hagan, who is still listed as the owner of the bar in filings with the secretary of state, but didn’t hear back in time for publication.
Located in the historic Ebenezer building, Block 15 was predominantly a sports bar that showed just about every game, including recent World Cup matches. During Chiefs games, the bar would offer drink and food specials and sometimes host watch parties with DJs.
Block 15 also hosted non-sporting events, like reality show “Love Island” watch parties and a weekend lineup of local DJs.
For its final days, Block 15 promoted one last drink deal: $5 draft beer, $15 margarita pitchers and a Block sweet treat free shot.
“We’d love to see you over the next two weeks to celebrate the memories and give Block 15 the send-off it deserves,” the post said.
