Popular Kansas City pizza restaurant is opening a new Johnson County location
Pizza Tascio — a Kansas City-area restaurant chain with seven existing locations — is about to slice its newest spot.
The brand announced via social media that it will soon open a location in Mission at 5422 Johnson Drive, near Sully’s Pub and WingStand by Jefferson’s.
Eli Lombardino, one of the owners, said Monday morning that he’s hoping to start serving pies this summer, potentially mid-August.
With spots in North Kansas City, in Waldo, on 39th Street, in Overland Park and beyond, Eli said he hopes this location will give north Johnson County-dwellers a shorter drive.
“We have a lot of customers that are already coming to our restaurants, so we saw that gap,” he said. “We found somewhere that would work for us.”
The new location will be “on the smaller side,” he added, with some bench seating but mostly for pickup, carry out and to-go orders.
Pizza Tascio first opened in St. Joseph in 2021 by its original owner, Erik Borger, who also founded Neapolitan-style pizza joint Il Lazzarone. Its North Kansas City spot, the first in the metro, came in 2022.
Eli Lombardino has been running the company with brothers Caleb and Gian Lombardino, along with business partner Sean Davis, since November 2023.
The New York-style pizzeria’s popular pies include the Red Tascio (18-inch Dinapoli Sauce pie with mozzarella, ricotta, cup pepperoni, fresh basil, and a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey for $29) and White Tascio (18-inch white pie combining whole milk mozzarella, ricotta, Paradise Locker Italian Sausage, broccoli, and roasted garlic olive oil for $29).
“We’re just excited to be in the area, and we’re excited to bring Kansas City’s favorite pizza to Mission,” Eli said.
This spring, it opened its most recent spot at 7109 NW Barry Road.
Pizza Tascio’s 111 Burlington Ave. location received a visit from famous pizza reviewer Dave Portnoy, who founded Barstool Sports, late last year.
He rated the spot an 8.1 out of 10, saying the pie had “good undercarriage.”
