A cafe in downtown Lawrence selling coffee and crêpes has closed
A cafe known for its crêpes and coffee served inside a retro space in downtown Lawrence has closed after more than two years in business, according to the owner.
Katie Hoke confirmed that Streamline Coffee & Crepes shut its doors after its last day of service Tuesday. The news of the closing came unexpectedly the day before in an Instagram post.
Business had slowed down this year, especially on weekdays, Hoke said, which she partially blamed on months-long street construction downtown. Lawrence’s coffee scene has also gained competition with the opening of two chain coffee shops with drive-thrus — Dutch Bros and 7 Brew.
“We saw a significant decrease in sales with a combination of those events,” Hoke said.
The staff received notice Monday and were given two weeks severance pay and referral support.
Streamline started in 2023 inside an Airstream trailer at 4840 Bob Billings Parkway, where it offered only coffee, like flavored lattes and iced matcha.
But Hoke decided to move the business into a storefront due to winter weather challenges associated with the Airstream. That was when Hoke added crêpes to the menu, with both sweet and savory options of the thin French pancake-style food.
The storefront at 13 E. Eighth St. opened in April 2025r, and the Airstream closed in January of this year.
This week marked an end for Hoke owning and running the business, but she is selling Streamline.
“It could be turnkey downtown, or it could be picking up the menu and branding and maybe taking it to Kansas City,” Hoke said.
