Independent bookstore in Overland Park closing. ‘Moody’ shop will replace it
A downtown Overland Park independent bookstore is closing next month after five years in business.
Ink and Page Book Boutique, a new and used bookstore at 7942 Santa Fe Drive, will be closing so owner Erin Olivia can spend more time with her family, she said in a February post in which she announced she would not renew her lease.
“I love so much about this shop. I’m proud of what I’ve built and of this growing community. The timing is incredibly bittersweet with the new farmer’s market pavilion almost finished,” Olivia said. “ We have made it through 18 months of construction and there are so many great things right around the corner. That makes this decision really hard.”
Readers won’t be left without an independent bookstore, though. In a post Wednesday, Olivia announced that another woman-owned independent book store is slated to take over the space. The new store, The Inked Page, has a similar name but a totally different personality.
“Our vibe? Color-drenched yet cozy, eccentric yet warm. A little mysterious. A little sexy. A little playful. Practical Magic meets Midwest emo,” said The Inked Page in an Instagram post.
Hours at Ink and Page Book Boutique will be unusual for the next few weeks, according to Olivia’s post. Customers with loyalty points, store credit or gift cards are asked to use them by June 13. After that, Olivia will assess inventory for liquidation sale plans.
The shop will still accept popular used fiction titles in excellent condition through May, but is no longer taking kids’ books or nonfiction, according to the post.
The Inked Page, which has a tentative opening for late July, said it will be a place for the weirdos, emos, witchy and wild. It plans to highlight mystery/thriller, horror, dark fiction and romance books.
Though she enjoyed the years of owning her own bookstore, Olivia said in the post she is looking forward to her next chapter.
“Thanks so much for all the love and support!!” she said. “I am excited and more than ready to spend time focusing on my family, but I will miss you.”
