A Kansas City restaurant with two locations known for its Creole and Southern pasta and seafood dishes has closed its original restaurant in the Brookside area, according to an announcement from the owner on social media.

District Fish & Pasta House posted to Facebook back in February that the location at 1664 E. 63rd St. had shuttered. The owner reiterated news of the closure in a post on May 9, though the second location in the Northland (305A NE Englewood Road) remains open for business.

“To our 63rd Street family: That location meant more to us than most people will ever know,” the Facebook post over the weekend said. “We poured our heart, sacrifice, long nights and everything we had into that chapter. Along the way, we took some hard losses and learned some real lessons… but quitting was never part of the story.”

The owners said on Facebook that the social media page for that location would soon shut down, and guests should follow the Northland eatery’s page for more updates.

Months before the Brookside-area location’s announced closure, the restaurant was hit with multiple health inspection violations for buildup inside the restaurant and the lack of food handler cards for its employees. The business’ state license was also revoked in November, and at the time a city spokesperson said the restaurant could resume operations once it provided a “current No Tax Due letter from the Missouri Department of Revenue.”

The Kansas City Star sent emails to two listed email addresses belonging to District Fish & Pasta to get more information about the closure, but didn’t hear back in time for publication.

The Brookside-area location opened in 2020, according to Facebook, with a menu that served Creole and soul food staples like crawfish pasta and fried fish dinners. The second District Fish & Pasta House debuted in late 2025.

Kiraameen Khalifah, whose KC restaurant experience includes Lutfi’s Fried Fish, comes from a family of business owners, and his brother, Guroux Khalifah, runs the popular District Biskuits in North Kansas City, reported Startland.

The business has participated in Black Feast Week, an annual restaurant program from The Kansas City Defender publication that aims to highlight Black-owned eateries, since the program’s inception in 2024.
