The Kansas City metro now has one less Chuck E. Cheese location.

The children’s entertainment spot in Olathe, 15225 W. 135th Place, has been open for at least two decades, according to property records. But a sign on its door alerted customers that it closed April 4.

“We understand that this news may have an impact on you, and you may visit us at the nearest location in Overland Park, KS,” the sign reads.

Allison Chouinard, a spokeswoman for the company, told The Star via email that the closing was part of a typical process for Chuck E. Cheese.

“As leases expire, markets evolve, and consumer preferences shift, we adjust our real estate strategy accordingly,” she said in part.

Chuck E. Cheese still has spots in the Northland at 9196 N. Skyview Ave., Overland Park at 10510 Metcalf Lane, and Independence at 18701 E. 39th St.

“Looking ahead in 2026, we are delighted to share that we anticipate opening more locations than we close,” Chouinard said.

Many of those will be Adventure World locations, a new model of play center geared toward children ages 3 to 8, featuring a massive indoor playground. The playgrounds at Adventure World are 20 times larger than ones at traditional Chuck E. Cheese locations, according to the company’s website.

“Unlike traditional Chuck E. Cheese family entertainment centers that focus on arcade games, pizza and prizes, Adventure World is all about active play and imagination,” reads a press release from the company at the time it opened.

“Parents can join their kids as they explore the three-story play structure, toddler zone, dance floor and more, creating shared experiences built on physical activity, safety and storytelling.”

The very first Adventure World opened in November in Arlington, Texas, near Dallas.

Asked whether Adventure World would make its way to the metro, Chouirand said the company has identified two spots in Missouri as potential locations, which she did not specify.

Chuck E. Cheese parent company CEC Entertainment recently closed its location at 8809 State Line Road in the Ward Parkway shopping center. The spot first opened as sister restaurant Peter Piper Pizzeria in 2023 but closed a year later.

It reopened as Chuck E. Cheese a few months later, then transitioned into adult-centric, retro concept Chuck’s Arcade.

Chuck E. Cheese still has hundreds of locations across 45 states.

The Ward Parkway location once housed the last remaining Chuck E. Cheese animatronic in the metro. The company began to cut back on its animatronic bands and characters a few years ago.
