Openings & Closings

Johnson County burger restaurant opens, offering daily specials

More than a decade ago, Burg & Barrel opened its original location in north Overland Park.

Then came its spot in South Leawood at 5408 W. 151st St., then its Lenexa location at 8725 Bourgade St.

Now its fourth (though hopefully not final) installation is here.

The local burger and brews chain opened its newest location over the weekend, this one in Leawood’s Ranch Mart North shopping center. The new spot, 3618 W. 95th St., neighbors health cafe Billie’s Grocery and sits behind Meat Mitch Barbecue.

Each Burg & Barrel location has its own flair and style, but the menu is all the same.

The burger-heavy menu includes popular dishes like the smokehouse ($16.50) with a patty cooked in liquid smoke, applewood bacon, cheddar, bibb lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickles, and the spicy avocado burger ($17) with a beef patty, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar, bibb lettuce, tomato, and avocado-chipotle-cilantro mayo.

Wraps, chicken tenders and more are also served.

Every day, Burg & Barrel offers different specials Mondays through Thursdays. On Mondays, that’s sliders for $3 each. Thursdays feature a $10 cheeseburger and fries.

Owners Jake and Mandy Chappelow started Burg & Barrel at 7042 W. 76th St. in 2013.

Sitting inside a booth at the new location on Monday, Jake Chappelow told The Star he’s excited to open his newest Leawood location, especially in such a high-traffic spot.

“It’s a growing area,” Jake Chappelow said. “It’s packed.”

The space has about 268 patrons inside and outside. Next to its patio is The Yard at Ranch Mart, a green space that will feature outdoor concerts. Chappelow said that, last year, those events drew in hundreds of people.

While their new location is an exciting step, Chappelow hopes there will be more news in the near future.

“Our brand is growing, and we get an opportunity to expand,” he said.

Billie’s opened next door in late 2023.

Burg & Barrel is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
