Joe’s BBQ will open fifth KC location with new menu ahead of the World Cup

Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que is set to open a new location this May.

The new restaurant, called Joe’s Next Door, will be across from the iconic gas station restaurant, at 4664 Mission Road in Kansas City, Kansas’ old Taco Republic. Joe’s Next Door will include a few favorites like the famous Z-Man and their french fries, but will offer a more diverse selection, according to a news release.

“We are excited to bring a family friendly menu that offers a diverse range of food and cocktails that is perfect for date night around the fire pit or hanging with friends on the weekend to watch a game,” vice president Ryan Barrows said in the release.

Joe’s Next Door will have both indoor dining areas, fire pits, TVs and music, according to the release. The restaurant plans to be open every day and feature weekly food specials.

Joe’s Kansas City began in 1996 inside a gas station in Westwood, Kansas, when Jeff Stehney partnered with smoker business owner Joe Davidson to open what was then called Oklahoma Joe’s.

When Stehney and Davidson separated their businesses, Oklahoma Joe’s was renamed Joe’s Kansas City Bar-B-Que and has since opened three locations across Kansas with over 300 employees and an annual revenue of over $25 million.

“Joy and I lived just around the corner from 47th & Mission before we opened the gas station, it was one of our first homes and the beginning of our lives here in K.C.,” Jeff Stehney said in the release. “This area means so much to us and we want to add another great restaurant that the local community can enjoy.”

Construction and remodeling have already begun, according to the release. The owners plan to have everything completed with plenty of time to spare before soccer fans travel into town for the World Cup.

There are currently three other Joe’s restaurants in Mission, Leawood, and Olathe. Their food is also served inside the KC Live District, Kaufman Stadium, & CPKC Stadium.

Joe’s was ranked fourth for best Bar-B-Que last year from Food & Wine’s Global Tastemakers Awards.
