Paris Baguette — a popular French-inspired bakery and cafe from South Korea — is opening a spot in downtown Kansas City.

The chain’s third location in the metro will be at 1360 Main St. in the Power & Light District.

The new Paris Baguette location aims to open later this year, according to a press release from the district.

“An exceptional bakery is part of what makes an attractive neighborhood,” John Moncke, president of Power & Light, said in the release. “Paris Baguette will enhance the quality of life in the District for residents, office workers, and visitors.”

Paris Baguette is known for its large variety of unique pastries, hand-crafted cakes, specialty coffee and sandwiches.

Its location will be Paris Baguette’s third spot in the metro. Its two others are in Overland Park at 11125 W. 95th St. and 15895 Metcalf Ave.

Owner Sandeep Khandelwal, who owns the south Overland Park location and the soon-to-be downtown shop, is looking forward to opening the 2,900 square feet spot in the former Three Dog Bakery storefront.

“We are really excited about it, we are very excited about being part of the Kansas City downtown,” Khandelwal said in an interview Monday morning. “We feel like it will be an ideal spot for a Paris Baguette.”

While it’s been not quite a year since he opened his first metro location, Khandelwal hopes to bring the concept to more suburbs.

“Our interest is to expand this franchise into neighboring towns and cities,” he said.

Paris Baguette’s expansive menu includes seasonal favorites like its iced salted caramel pretzel latte and iced pink velvet macchiato.

Staples include its croissant doughnuts, very berry pastries, tiramisu cake, harvest chicken salad sandwich, ham and cheese pastry, and dozens more.

“Whether you want savory, sweet, we got it all,” Khandelwal said.

Franchisee Mike Issa owns the Paris Baguette near Oak Park Mall, which opened in June last year and was the metro’s first location.

Power & Light is also home to the KC Live! entertainment block, Palm Tree Club, Modern Market Eatery, Bristol and more.
