These 3 clothing stores are set to close at Johnson County’s Oak Park Mall
Three stores inside the Oak Park mall are set to close before the end of the month.
Employees at both Chico’s and Eddie Bauer told the Star on Wednesday morning that they will close on Sunday, Jan. 25, and Wednesday, Jan. 28, respectively.
A sales lead at the Overland Park mall’s Chico’s location told the Star that the store’s last day is Jan. 25. There is plenty of inventory left in the clearance section but said that they have begun shipping out their full-priced items. There are five other Chico’s around Kansas City.
The popular women’s clothing brand opened in 1983 in Sanibel Island, according to their website. They now have over 500 boutiques across the country. The company was acquired by Sycamore Partners, a New York-based private equity firm in 2023, according to the Fort Meyers News Press. There are five other Chico’s locations throughout the metro.
Eddie Bauer, a popular outdoor clothing store opened originally in downtown Seattle in 1920, according to their website. In 1935, Eddie Bauer created the first down-insulated jacket in the country, which is what the company is now widely known for.
There is only one other Eddie Bauer location, an outlet inside The Legends in Kansas City, Kansas.
Samuel Cristman, the general manager of Eddie Bauer at the Oak Park Mall, said they have seen a lot of foot traffic ahead of the closure.
“We’re already kind of low on inventory,” Cristman said. “It’s down to a third of the store.”
The third, Francesca’s, is closing its store inside the Johnson County mall as part of a nationwide closure. Francesca’s is also liquidating its inventory, according to Women’s Wear Daily. The Star reached out to Francesca’s but did not immediately hear back.
