Johnson County discount store will close soon, offering deals until last day
A dollar store in Johnson County is permanently closing.
Family Dollar at 6220 Nieman Road in Shawnee is shutting down and advertising discounts of up to 30% off until its last day.
Employees with the location told The Star it would close at the end of January or until supplies run out.
Family Dollar still has dozens of stores across the metro. In March, former parent company Dollar Tree announced its intention to sell Family Dollar to Brigade Capital Management, LP and Macellum Capital Management, LLC as part of a $1 billion deal.
The Shawnee Family Dollar is near several other discount stores.
Dollar Tree (its former sister company) is around the corner at 6445 Quivira Road. Dollar General is down the road at 6638 Nieman Road, with another Dollar General farther south at 7444 Nieman Road.
The company closed two stores last year in Kansas City, Kansas.
