McDonald’s has filed an application to build a new Kansas City area restaurant.

The fast-food corporation — with close to 40,000 restaurants globally — has submitted a rezoning request to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.

The new spot, according to city documents, would be near 24th Street and Metropolitan Avenue in KCK, just south of the Walmart Neighborhood Market. The roughly 4,500-square-foot restaurant will have a dining area and drive-thru.

There aren’t many other fast food restaurants in the Argentine neighborhood. Local chain Go Chicken Go is at 4111 Shawnee Drive.

There are two McDonald’s relatively close by — 4101 Kansas Ave. north of the BNSF railway and 4427 Shawnee Drive in the Turner neighborhood.

The UG will discuss McDonald’s rezoning proposal at Monday night’s meeting. The request must be approved before the restaurant can be built.

A franchise-owned McDonald’s location opened more than a year ago at 4321 NW Barry Road in the Northland. It was the first the brand had built in the metro in nearly a decade.
