Longtime Johnson County bridal store closing. Major discounts on dresses, more
A longtime Johnson County bridal shop is closing and marking down items until its last day.
David’s Bridal in Lenexa — which has held a location at 9310 Marshall Drive since at least 2006 — is shutting down its location.
The company said in a written statement to The Star that the lease at that location was coming to an end.
“This naturally coincides with the business’ strategic pivot and focus on opening new different retail models in the coming months and year,” the statement reads in part, though it did not give more details about its new strategy.
The store is slated to close Nov. 16, according to the company.
The store is continually marking down wedding dresses and other items, with discounts currently reaching as high as 50% off.
It still has Kansas City area stores at 8111 NW Roanridge Road in Barry Woods Crossing and 1154 NE Coronado in Blue Springs. If customers’ orders to the Lenexa store come in after closing, they will be shipped to one of those locations.
In 2023, David’s Bridal filed for bankruptcy and avoided a total shutdown by selling its business and assets to Cion Investment Corp.
According to industry publication Retail Dive, David’s Bridal is gearing up to become an “asset-light” company with a digital-first strategy, focusing on drop shipments and offering an AI-powered shopping experience through Pearl Planner.
Another competitor, Tip Top Tux, closed all its stores abruptly nationwide in 2023. It had multiple Kansas City locations.
Lenexa is also the North American headquarters for wedding company Essense of Australia, which also owns brands Stella York, All Who Wander, Martina Liana, Martina Liana Luxe, Oxford Street and bridesmaid brand Sorella Vita.
