Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza adds 2 new stores, filling vacancies
Three new restaurant and retail tenants are on their way to Kansas City’s historic Country Club Plaza, a shopping district with many open storefronts.
The Plaza announced Tuesday that it would welcome retail concepts Perch and J.H. & Sons, as well as Vertice Italian, which was previously announced by Summit Hospitality Group.
Colorado-based, high-end women’s boutique Perch will open a location this fall at 333 W. 47th St., in the former White House Black Market space.
From Sioux Falls, South Dakota, upscale men’s retailer J.H. & Sons will also open a spot at 314 and 316 Ward Parkway, next-door shops formerly home to an event space and Tulip Boutique (E.G. Geller Shoes before that), respectively. The shop looks to open in spring 2026.
And, as previously announced, Vertice Italian will take over the 616 Ward Parkway Space once occupied by Parkway Social Kitchen. It hopes to open sometime in 2026. Summit Hospitality also operates Summit Grill, Third Street Social, Pearl Tavern and Boru Asian Eatery and Neighborhood Cafe.
Opened in 1923, the historic shopping center’s architecture mimics the Moorish-style of Kansas City’s sister city of Seville, Spain. But the three openings come after months of closures and empty storefronts. In May, nearly one-third of the Plaza was vacant.
Dallas-based ownership group The Village Collection purchased the shopping center last year, promising to restore it to its former glory. Part of the plan, principal owner Ray Washburne said, was to make “addition through subtraction,” and bring in more local concepts.
Dustin Bullard, the company’s vice president of partnerships and place, told The Star in May that the promise to improve the Plaza to new heights still remains.
“I would ask for continued patience and trust,” Bullard said.
About a month ago, the Plaza’s new food hall Plaza Provisions opened in the former Strang Hall space. Rooftop bar Momentum Lounge opened above it around the same time.
