Upscale steakhouse will open in growing Johnson County development

An upscale, Tennessee-based steakhouse is opening its first Kansas City area location.

Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill is coming to the Lenexa City Center development at 8687 Scarborough St., according to developer Copaken Brooks.

The restaurant is owned by SPB Hospitality and part of the same family of restaurants as J. Alexander’s Kitchen & Bar — a contemporary American restaurant with a spot in Overland Park at 11471 Metcalf Ave.

“Lenexa City Center offers the ideal setting to introduce Stoney River to Kansas City,” Bob Fargo, senior vice president of development for SPB, said in a media release. “We’re proud to bring the Stoney River experience—already beloved in markets across the country—to a community that values quality and connection.”

The 8,000-square-foot space will open in 2027 and neighbor AdventHealth’s new campus.

The new restaurant marks Stoney River’s first in Kansas. Its only Missouri location is in Chesterfield, near St. Louis.

Stoney River will join Colorado-founded breakfast restaurant Urban Egg at 8669 Scarborough St. and “eatertainment” restaurant Five Four (formerly 54th Street).

Five Four will open in fall 2026 on the east side of Scarborough — just north of 87th Street — and will feature an indoor dining area and outdoor games. The spot will be Five Four’s ninth area location.

Urban Egg is looking to open its spot in late 2026.

In the same development, a project dubbed “restaurant row” saw several other eateries open this year.

Southern kitchen Tupelo Honey, Zhoug Mediterranean and Cactus Grill all opened this year.

Enjoy Pure Food + Drink began serving customers in the development late last year.
