Kansas City doughnut shop will close. But owner says ‘exciting things’ are next

An iconic Kansas City doughnut inside a vintage trolley will close after less than two years of operations.

Donutology will wrap up its operations at the River Market trolley, 426 Delaware, on Sunday.

The company, which launched in 2016, has decided to focus its efforts on its flagship location in Westport at 1009 Westport Road.

“This was a tough call, but the right one,” owner Andrew Cameron said in a written statement to the media. “The Trolley was a creative and fun second location, and we’re incredibly proud of what our team accomplished there. Now, it’s time to put our full energy into making our original Westport location the best version of Donutology yet.”

Andrew Cameron opened Donutology in Westport in 2016. He previously owned several Daylight Donuts locations in the metro.

Cameron went on to tease “exciting things” coming this fall for Donutology, but did not give any more details..

Donutology launched in the more-than-70-year-old streetcar in fall 2023. The shop is known for its artfully crafted doughnuts, which come in full sizes or minis.

Beloved flavors include cinnamon roll and bavarian. It gained attention for its Eras Tour line of minis when Taylor Swift came to Kansas City in 2023.

Before Donutology, Made in KC had a cafe in the trolley.
