The growing Indian food chain Desi Chowrastha plans to open in Overland Park this summer, its first in the metro area.

Desi Chowrastha, a Texas-based Indian restaurant chain, is opening its first Kansas City-area location in Overland Park.

The restaurant will be located at 6301 W. 135th Street, Suite A, in the Corbin Park Retail Village. A grand opening is expected in early summer 2025.

The name “Desi Chowrastha” combines “Desi,” referring to South Asian culture, and “Chowrastha,” meaning a crossroads or gathering place. To that end, Desi Chowrastha serves Indian street food from every region of the most populous country in the world, including kabobs, dosas, curries, sandwiches, and its signature biryani. Its menu in Dallas has 258 items.

At 7,564 square feet, it will be the largest Indian restaurant in Overland Park, according to Block & Company, Inc., Realtors, which brokered the deal. It also sells groceries.

The location — formerly home to Copps Pizza, which closed earlier this year — is part of a building whose other occupants are the American Red Cross, Embody, and Mozari Alterations. The broader Corbin Park development is home to a number of other major retailers and restaurants, including Scheels, Von Maur, Sprouts Farmers Market, and Dave & Buster’s.

Desi Chowrastha currently operates 25 franchise locations across the U.S., with additional sites in development.
