After 25 years, this Mexican restaurant has closed in Johnson County
Chapala Mexican Restaurant has closed in Olathe.
“Though we are closing our doors for now, we’re holding onto hope that this isn’t goodbye forever,” the Chapala family wrote on Facebook last week. “We hope to continue sharing some of your favorites — like our beloved cheese dip — from home, and maybe, when the time is right, we’ll try again somewhere new.”
The restaurant opened 25 years ago, the owners said. It moved 3 miles south down Interstate 35 after the pandemic, from its longtime spot at 105 S. Clairborne Road to 1531 S. Hamilton Circle.
Customers have been sharing remembrances on the Chapala Facebook page, many of them posting photos of celebrations hosted there over the years.
“This place has been a staple in our lives for 23 years!” one said.
“I have celebrated many birthdays with you all,” said another. “Chapala’s has always been my favorite since we moved to Olathe years ago. I’m going to miss the salsa; it’s the best.”
Chapala’s last day of operations was April 27. The owners did not respond to a request for comment.
