Popular fast-food brand Sonic Drive-In has closed its restaurant near Oak Park Mall.

Cones blocked the entrance Friday, and its sign was partially removed. Christine Poehling, a spokeswoman for the mall, told The Star the location had closed Sunday.

The mall’s owner, CBL Properties, is currently searching for new tenants, Poehling said.

Sonic did not respond to The Star’s requests for comment.

The drive-in at 9801 Quivira Road in Overland Park had been there since at least 2011.

Sonic has several other locations in Johnson County, including one not far away at 8905 Santa Fe Drive in Overland Park.

The national drive-in chain sells shakes, burgers and cheesy tots with drive-thru or drive-in service.

Meanwhile, a longtime local drive-thru in Kansas City, Kansas, is making a revival.

Paul’s Drive-In, which will soon be called Paul’s Jr. Drive-In, will reopen in the coming months at 1008 Osage Ave.
