Grains and Taps plans to close its downtown Lee’s Summit taproom later this spring, its owners announced recently in a newsletter to customers.

Owner Brad Boehm said the business was at an “exit point” at 10 SW Third St.

“There are many factors that influenced the decision (economics, industry trends, overall sales),” Boehm wrote. “The timing and the terms of our leases ended up being one of the biggest controlling factors.”

Grains and Taps will consolidate operations at its other location, at 310 SW Blue Parkway in Lee’s Summit’s Pine Tree Plaza. That space already includes a taproom as well as a home brewing supply store.

“We are incredibly optimistic about the future of Grains & Taps at our Pine Tree Plaza location,” Boehm said. “We have seen tremendous success with recent events and the addition of our popular pizza offerings, and we are eager to build on that momentum. Our consolidation will allow us to focus our energy and resources on creating an even better experience for you at Grains & Taps.”

Boehm founded Grains and Taps with Brian Bixby nearly 12 years ago after struggling to find home brew equipment in the Lee’s Summit area. The business later expanded to include a brewery and two taprooms.

Boehm said they plan to close the doors in downtown Lee’s Summit in “late May/early June.”
