Druid Dice, a tabletop gaming supplies shop at 2010 Main St. in the Crossroads, is shutting down later this month.

Owner Alec Ward said the closing is due to a variety of reasons: difficulty competing with prices on custom dice made in China, the building’s deteriorating condition and rising crime in the area.

“We’ve been broken into three times in the past six months,” Ward said. “We’ve had three different doors smashed in. They’ve stolen our safe, our register, made a big mess of the place.”

Aspects of Druid Dice will live on. Ward will sell board games, dice and other tabletop gaming accessories on consignment inside Pawn & Pint, the recently reopened board game bar at 613 Walnut St.

And Ward has signed a new lease for a shop called Topdeck Treasures, which he expects to open in April at 3703 Summit St., a midtown strip that also includes Whiskers Cat Cafe & Coffeehouse and the African restaurant Teetasty.

“It’ll be pretty similar to Druid Dice, just without the board-games side of things, since we’ll be selling that stuff inside Pawn & Pint,” Ward said. “We’ll be more of a trading-card game shop focused on Magic the Gathering and Pokemon, plus some other games. And we’re working on getting licensing for food and snacks as well. We are hoping to be a community gathering place.”

In the meantime, Druid Dice is open for regular business hours (noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; noon to 10 p.m. Saturday and Tuesday; and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday). The shop is running closeout sales and plans to close at the end of the month, unless inventory runs out before that.
