This big-box discount retailer has opened its first Kansas City area location

The off-price retailer Gabe’s has opened its first Kansas City store, at 14221 E. U.S. Hwy 40.

The location was formerly home to Old Time Pottery. Gabe’s acquired all 38 Old Time Pottery store in the U.S. in 2023.

Founded in Morgantown, West Virginia, in 1961, Gabe’s sells brand-name men’s and women’s clothing, kitchenware, home decor, bed and bath, and pet goods at a deep discount. It is sometimes compared to TJ Maxx and Nordstrom Rack.

The KC store opened in late October. Its inventory Monday included a men’s Carhartt T-shirt for $12.99 and a memory foam pillow for $15.99. The checkout line was 75 people deep at 2:30 p.m.

Hours at Gabe’s are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday to Thursday, and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
