Mesob Restaurant & Rhum Bar is closing its Northland location this week less than a year after opening.

“Despite our best efforts, the current economic climate has resulted in a significant decline in customer traffic,” chef-owner Cherven Desauguste wrote on Facebook. “We have explored every possible avenue to adapt and overcome these challenges, but unfortunately, we are unable to sustain our business under these circumstances.”

Its final day of service at 5225 NW 64th St. is Saturday, Oct. 26.

The original Mesob, founded in 2012, remains open in midtown at 3601 Broadway Blvd.

Desauguste announced last October that he would be shutting down Taste Island Grill, a fast-casual restaurant he’d opened next door to the midtown Mesob. He said at the time that Mesob planned to open two additional locations: one in the Northland and one in downtown Overland Park at 8016 Santa Fe Drive.

The Overland Park location did not come to pass. That restaurant space, formerly Elsa’s, is now home to the Ethiopian restaurant Abol.

The Mesob in the Northland debuted in December near the intersection of Interstate 29 and 64th Street. Desauguste did not respond to a request for comment.
