Popular late-night Mexican restaurant is opening a new Kansas City area location

Pancho’s will open a new location in KC’s Northland later this month.

Since opening in a former Arby’s at 3540 Main St. in 2001, Pancho’s Mexican Food has been synonymous with 24-hour eats in Kansas City. Its chorizo breakfast burritos, carne asada fries and birria tacos have eased the descent of many late nights out on the town.

That location on Main closed a few years ago — it’s now called Rancho’s, and the menu is rather similar — but Pancho’s has been expanding in the KC area and beyond over the past few decades. It now has outposts in Overland Park, Blue Springs, Grandview, Belton, Independence, Lawrence, Jefferson City, Springfield, Oklahoma City and even three cities in Wyoming.

Later this month, Pancho’s will add another restaurant to its growing portfolio, at 2906 N.E. Vivion Road. The space was formerly North Bowl Chinese Restaurant.

“It’s our first one up north,” said Alonso Aleman, the son of Pancho’s founders and a principal in the company. “We’ve done a lot of remodeling in the building, and we’ll have it open by the end of the month.”

Aleman expects the restaurant will be open for business as of Sunday, but he said to check Pancho’s Facebook page to be sure.

The Northland location won’t quite serve around the clock, as some of the other Pancho’s do. Its hours will be 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. daily.

Aleman also said a new Pancho’s in Topeka is planned for early 2025.
