After Johnson County boutique closed, couple brings sparkling new store to the space
Doug Brooks is no stranger to the jewelry business.
He’s been in the industry his entire life, he said this week, and he previously managed another store in the Kansas City area. But the sleek space with marble floors and glittery chandeliers in Prairie Village is the first he’s owned.
“It’s been a huge blessing,” he said. “It just worked out.”
Brooks Fine Jewelers at 8221 Corinth Mall opened about a week ago, in the old Tyler Kingston space.
The upscale jewelry store is a far cry from the cowboy-chic boutique that once resided there. Tyler Kingston Mercantile packed up and moved to Texas with its owners late last year, after six years of business.
Before that, another jewelry store — Jewelry Arts — operated in the space for several years.
Brooks co-owns his store in Corinth Square with his wife, Adriani Brooks. Many of their pieces are custom-made, like an emerald necklace for $20,000.
Designing gemstone jewelry is Doug Brooks’ specialty, he said.
While several of the pieces can sell for tens of thousands of dollars, others only cost a few hundred. There’s something for everyone, Doug Brooks said.
“Anybody can come in here and get very good service,” he said.
Brooks Fine Jewelers is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. It is closed Sundays.
