Bluestem is back. Kind of.

Colby and Megan Garrelts, who operated the award-winning restaurant at 900 Westport Road from 2004 to 2020, are hosting a special Bluestem pop-up at Rye on the Plaza (4646 Mill Creek Parkway).

The limited-seating event will be held Monday, Oct. 28. Tickets, which are available on Tock, are $265 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

The six-course dinner will feature wine pairings from Domaine Clos de la Chapelle, a Burgundian winery owned by Kansas City native Mark O’Connell. Among the dishes planned are Elysian Fields lamb served with greens, potato fondant and truffle; and duck cappelletti with brodo and pickled cherries.

Bluestem racked up accolades during its 16 years serving New American fare. Colby Garrelts received a Best Chef Midwest award from the James Beard Foundation in 2013, and the restaurant was a Beard semifinalist for “Outstanding Restaurant” in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The Garrelts opened the comfort-food-oriented Rye at 10551 Mission Road in Leawood in 2012, following it up with the Country Club Plaza location in 2017. They also serve as consultants on the food and beverages served at the KC Current’s CPKC Stadium.
