Arizona Trading Co. left a vintage void in Westport when it relocated to the Crossroads earlier this summer. But a new shop has arrived across the street to help fill it.

Gilded Chaos opened earlier this month at 314 Westport Road. The space was formerly home to the Mid Coast Modern gift shop, which closed in May.

Owner Lindsey Kupper has been knocking around Kansas City’s vintage and style scene for nearly two decades. She’s run a now-defunct fashion blog called Jujoustyle.com, done photo styling for local publications like The Pitch and Ink, appeared on fashion segments on KCTV 5 morning shows and in 2014 helped open Kulture, a thrift boutique on 39th Street.

Most recently, Kupper has been organizing the Martini Corner Vintage Market, a pop-up featuring dozens of local vintage vendors and makers held every few months in the Noka parking lot. (The next will be Sunday, Oct. 6.)

With Gilded Chaos, Kupper is leaning into American clothes from the 1960s to the 1990s — vintage Levi’s, T-shirts, work jackets, overalls, trucker hats, and some smaller accessories like earrings and watches.

“A lot of thrift stores in KC tend to be a little more feminine, so I try to pick pieces that are as unisex as possible,” Kupper said. “It’s mostly casual wear — things that are easy to wear.”

Hours for now are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday. Closed Monday and Tuesday.
