Betty Rae’s Merriam location is opening this week. Here’s how to get free ice cream
Kansas City staple Betty Rae’s Ice Cream will open its second Johnson County location this week.
The newest shop, 5740 Antioch Road in Merriam, will begin serving customers Thursday.
In addition to offering fresh scoops and cones, the Merriam spot will act as a production facility and test kitchen, where customers can provide feedback on new flavors.
Located north of Ikea near the Cinemark Merriam Theater, Betty Rae’s will give out free scoops to the first 50 customers in line. Up to three sauces and toppings will be available all day long.
On opening day, customers can register to win free ice cream for a year, limit one cone a week. Five winners will be chosen.
The new location’s hours will be 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays to Thursdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Pints of Betty Rae’s are sold at 28 Cosentino-owned Price Chopper, SunFresh, and Cosentino’s Market stores, the company announced in November.
Later this month, Betty Rae’s plans to open its Prairie Village location — its third in Johnson County — at 5330 W. 95th St.
Last year, Matt Shatto of Shatto Milk Co. bought the company and promised to expand, later opening a location in Olathe at 10470 S. Ridgeview Road.
Founded in 2016 at 7140 Wornall Road, Betty Rae’s sells 26 flavors of ice cream, including creme brulee, s’mores, peanut butter and gooey butter cake.
